AmesburyYoga.com is a “virtual yoga studio” maintained by Whitney Willman, an Amesbury, Mass. based yoga instructor. Whitney has been profoundly impacted by yoga and has a close connection to the veteran’s community. She is on a mission to introduce the local veteran’s community to the unique benefits offered by this practice and is dedicated to helping everybody in the community connect with yoga, if they are interested.
We especially want to bring yoga to populations where we feel it could be particularly effective in supporting individuals, their families and the community. We have a special interest and training in providing yoga to:
- Military Veterans and their Families
- Trauma Victims (domestic, sexual, accident, sickness, etc.)
- Older Americans/Seniors
Our approach is to offer both public classes and yoga classes within the facilities of veteran’s organizations, partnering with service providers and non-profits to bring these valuable services to residents. This allows people to experience yoga in a venue where they are already familiar and comfortable. We recognize that it can be difficult, expensive and intimidating to join a studio or public class, particularly for some people with mental or physical wellness issues. This is a way to learn yoga in a community environment. And, when people are ready to come to public classes – we offer those too, at a variety of locations.
With this site, we hope to provide more information about what we’re doing, as well as information about related veteran’s wellness services available in the area.
If you are interested in trying yoga:
Please contact us for a referral to a local class or instructor. Send email to whitsps at gmail.com.
If you are a community organization interested in offering yoga to your members:
We are partnering with local organizations and service providers, and seeking funding, to deliver yoga classes at a free or very reduced cost to interested residents. Download our information sheets to learn more about our programs — or contact us with your own ideas. Our short term goals include providing specialized classes and workshops to residents, while working with community leaders and funding organizations to determine the best methods to deliver these services long term. We would love to make Amesbury, Mass. a pilot program for how other communities can offer these life-changing services to residents!
